Why The Tin Roof Still Rocks

A tin roof is a reasonable alternative for all those who might want that old retro look. This is not a task that I would recommend to a DYI fan, but with some skill it's not impossible.

Tin roofs are a very old system for roofing and still have some appeal to many. There are some technical issues that you must take into account when deciding to build one.

First of all this is not a system recommended for low slope buildings. If you still want to pursue this venue you should be aware that you will most likely encounter some problems in the long run.

A tin roof is cheap, but it can get pretty difficult to find the right supplies. You will need to do some serious digging to find them, but once you do half of your problems are over. The easy half at least, because you see you might need to have some sort of approval depending on your region's regulations. This doesn't mean that they don't think you are handy enough, it only means that the materials you use are in accordance to the law. If you live in a region with a history of tornadoes or hurricanes expect the law to be rather tough. Just make sure that anything you buy complies with the law and you shouldn't have any problem.

Believe it or not you are not the only one in loved with the retro look. If you browse the internet you can a lot of advice for free from persons who have done the same with their roof. This is a case where I really do not recommend specialists as they will most likely raise an eyebrow and propose you a steel roof instead. Philistines. Try to get in touch with the passionate bunch of amateurs which will prove very helpful and will be able to give quite a lot of essential know how. The lost art of tin roofs can be revived. Ok maybe not exactly lost and not exactly art, but you get the picture.

As with all roofs you should always check that the constructing occurs during a dry and warm period. This can prove to be quite a fun project and although the final result won't exactly be worthy enough to resist centuries, I assure you that you will be more than satisfied with the final product and the overall experience is worth the trouble. Make a chalk line along one side of a ridge. Northern side is better as it will provide better cooling, but just about any will do
