Fiberglass Shingles Compared To Other Shingles

The shingles that you choose for your home need to last for many years. You cannot afford to purchase a new roof every 10 years, no one can, and even Donald Trump would have trouble keeping up with that! That is why you need to choose the right roof for your home the first time. For most people this choice is clear and it is fiberglass shingles.

If you want to know more about some of the other shingles out there then read on. Keep in mind however that there are more than just these few, these just happen to be some of the most common forms of shingle on today's roofing market.

Asphalt Shingles
These are usually the cheapest shingles and that is one of the reasons they are so popular. They are pretty good but the different grades can vary enormously. They are composed of several different materials including fiberglass and asphalt and they sometimes have a couple of different layers. These shingles will usually do your home for about 15 or twenty years rarely longer than that.

Laminated Fiberglass Shingles
These usually have the same kid of construction that asphalt shingles do but they have an extra layer to them and they tend to be much thicker and stronger. These fiberglass shingles also look better when they are on a home than the other. They are more dramatic and textured, which is nice. These can last for about 30 years in some cases and they are much more expensive than regular asphalt shingles.

Wood Shingles
There is a slight difference between wood shingles and wood shake, the latter being more rustic looking. They both will add a sense of charm to your home that cannot really be achieved with any other roofing materials. If you have a fire in your home these are more likely to be fire resistant which is a drawback but they really do look great! These will only last about as long as the regular asphalt shingles which is about 15 to 20 years and they are the most expensive on this list.

Choosing any kind of shingle whether it is fiberglass shingles or any other type is something that you need to think carefully about.
